Better Late Than Never!

Well, it's been almost 2 years since the last blog post so this 1 is more than overdue. I've been very busy indeed since the last post, working on projects for fellow magicians, performing at special events but most importantly getting my first effect published. I'll cover each aspect briefly today and go into more detail in the next few blogs.

Published at Last

The Spread Drop Placement, (SDP) was created as a result of wanting to perform an on the fly version of an effect, created by the unstoppable John Carey, the bloke is a dynamo when it comes to creation. John shared his self-working effect, ‘10-20 Do As I Do’,with me during one of our telephone jamming sessions, and I absolutelyloved it, but, I wanted to eliminate the pre-set element of the effect. I wanted to be able to perform this very simple but direct effect on the fly, no
set-up at all. The result, is an 80 page booklet featuirng the workings of the sleight along with 3 effects I created using the SDP. On top of that I ended up with another 10 contributions from some of the biggest names in the industry!

I simply must say a huge thank you to John, for allowing me to publish my variation of his
effect ‘10-20 Do As I Do’, before it has even been released to the magic community. Had it not been for his creation, this control, along with the accompanying effects by the very generous artistes, would not exist.

Magicians Projects

John Carey

Since the publication of SDP, I have worked on a few projects with other magicians, mainly art and design for publication but also with effect creations. I spend a great many hours on the phone to John Carey discussing ideas and thrashing out effects to fine tune them. John asked me to do some artwork for a couple of his effects and the work has expanded from there. Below are all the projects I have created for John.

Chris Congreave

As a result of the work for John, which was very well received, Chris Congreave asked if could work on a project for him. That project subsequently spawned a 2nd volume and here is the artwork from those projects.

And Finally....

In between all these highly enjoyable Photoshop projects I performed at a few special events for which I created 2 new set pieces. I'll go into greater detail.

The collection as it stands as of 04/03/2016

What started out as a nostalgic trip down memory lane, picking up the tricks I owned as a child, has become an imperative mission after the tragic news about Paul's health.

The mission is to complete the collection in as good a condition as possible and then set up an agreement with the Daniels family stating that money from the sale of the completed collection will go to a charity of their choice. Martin Duffy, a very good friend of Paul and Debbie's is going to assist me in hopefully setting that up.

Hi all, my name is Mick Wilson and magic is my 2nd greatest passion, after my family. If you're a performer or student of the art of magic then this page may be of use to you.
